TAC-COMS RF Route Planner
Terrain & link margin along route Hover the chart or click the route on the map

How it works

  1. Load a route file (GPX, XML, KML/KMZ, TCX, GeoJSON or lat,lon CSV). It is processed in your browser and is never uploaded.
  2. Add repeater sites on the map (click, right-click, or import GPX waypoints) and set their antenna height, power, antenna gain and frequency.
  3. Calculate. For every point along the route and every site, the terrain profile between them is read from open elevation data and a path loss is calculated (free space + terrain diffraction + clutter). Uplink and downlink are both checked.
  4. Review the coloured route (signal quality, serving site, or one site at a time) and the profile chart.
  5. Export JPEG maps, a section-by-section signal analysis report, or the raw data.

Install as an app: on the hosted site, Chrome and Edge show an Install app button (or the install icon in the address bar); in Safari on a Mac use File > Add to Dock. The installed app opens in its own window and still loads with poor or no signal. Maps and terrain not already downloaded need a connection.

This is a planning estimate based on bare-earth terrain. Buildings and trees are approximated by the clutter setting. Always confirm critical areas with a field test.
